Foundation for Philippine Medical Missions (FPMM) is a Woodbury, MN based non-profit that provides free medical services to in-need communities in the Philippines.
FPMM began doing medical mission trips in 2000 and their aim is to provide a mission trip at least every 2 years to underserved communities across the Philippines. Pop-up clinics are established in local gyms and hospitals to provide services that include eye and dental clinics, family/internal medicine and pediatric clinics as well as surgical clinics for OB/GYN, ENT, Plastics (cleft lip/palate) and minor surgeries.
The missions also provide education to medical and nursing students and patient education on diabetes management.
Past mission trips have included Batangas; Pangasinan, Cebu; Catarman, Northern Samar; Bais City, Negros Oriental; Lianga, Surigao del Sur; and the most recent mission in February 2023 was held in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
Our Operation’s and Logistics Lead at Miga, Kyle Nelson, has participated in several of the FPMM mission trips with his family. Kyle’s mother, Carmelita, a Twin Cities area nurse, was born in the Philippines. Kyle’s father, Scott, was a long time missionary and volunteer, who sadly passed away in 2018. It was the Nelson’s dream to create a permanent birthing center in Carmelita’s home town of Lianga, which FPMM helped to establish in 2019 to honor Scott’s memory and service.
Carmelita and Kyle are guided by the following quotes in their commitment to FPMM:
“There are special people in our lives who never leave us, even after they are gone we continue to follow the steps they lead to keep them alive in our memory.”
“A life that touches others goes on FOREVER”
The next mission trip is planned for February 25 to March 2, 2024 at the District Hospital of Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur. More information about FPMM can be found at: https://fpmm44.wildapricot.org/
